Community Acceptance

Responsible tourism means that all touristic activities and actions are acceptable by local population. It is essential to remember that tourists are always visiting a destination that is local people’s home in living cultural landscape. Even though the visitors may call this cultural landscape wilderness, it is the place where locals’ daily lives happen.
Responsible tourism is based on collective community acceptance of what parts of Sámi culture can be commodified in tourism, and what need to be left outside of commercial utilisation. This collective acceptance may also change in time. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the situation at regular intervals for how tourism has affected local people’s lives.
