Duodji Akademiija 2027
Duodji Akademiija 2027 is a project aimed at preserving, strengthening, and promoting the Sámi handicraft tradition, duodji. The project’s activities focus on the areas of Enontekiö (Finland), Kautokeino (Norway), and Karesuando (Sweden), but its impact extends across the wider Sápmi region, encouraging communities beyond these core areas to sustain and develop their own craft traditions. The project brings together key stakeholders connected to duodji to engage in dialogue, collaborate, and build the future of Sámi handicraft. It also enhances the appreciation of duodji both among Sámi people and more broadly.

Main goals and impacts:
- To preserve and strengthen duodji as a living tradition that upholds cultural continuity and reinforces community bonds.
- To strengthen Sámi culture and cultural identity by highlighting the deep connection between duodji, traditions, language, and way of life.
- To promote social, ecological, and economic sustainability:
- Social: ensuring the participation of all community members regardless of age, gender, or status.
- Ecological: promoting sustainable use of materials, ethical sourcing, and environmentally responsible practices.
- Economic: supporting duodji as a source of income and strengthening duodji-based entrepreneurship.
- To enhance the resilience and self-determination of the Sámi community.
Concrete objectives and actions:
- Transmit craft knowledge and skills from one generation to the next.

- Support Sámi artisans’ entrepreneurship and businesses, and strengthen economic opportunities through networking.
