The Council of State has appointed the members and deputy members to the Sámi Parliament in Finland – The Sámi Parliament can now start organising its constituent meeting

In its plenary session on Thursday, 22 August, the Finnish Council of State appointed the members and deputy members elected in the repeat elections of the Sámi Parliament in Finland to perform their duties during the Sámi Parliament’s term, from 1 September 2024 to 31 December 2027.

Through the confirmation of the election results, the Sámi Parliament in Finland can now begin organising its constituent meeting. The meeting cannot be summoned until the Council of State has appointed the members of the Parliament.

In accordance with Section 55 of the Sámi Parliament’s rules of procedure, the first, or constituent, meeting of the Sámi Parliament in Finland is summoned by the longest-serving member of the Parliament, who will also chair the meeting until a new chair for the Sámi Parliament has been elected. This term, the meeting will be summoned by Jurist Anne Nuorgam.
