Sámi Languages
The Sámi Language Act guarantees the right of Sámi people to use their own language in courts and when dealing with authorities. In addition, public authorities have an obligation to implement and promote the linguistic rights of the Sámi. The Sámi Parliament provides advice and assistance on matters related to Sámi languages and the Sámi Language Act.

At the Sámi Language Office, we carry out tasks in accordance with the Sámi Language Act. We ensure that the translations required by law are delivered to authorities and institutions, assist them in finding Sámi language interpreters, and support other duties specified in the Act. In addition, we monitor the implementation of the objectives set out in the Sámi Language Act and make proposals to promote the use of the Sámi language when necessary.
The Sámi Language Office is happy to advise and assist with matters related to the Sámi languages and the Sámi Language Act.
