Programme

Effective community engagement is essential to develop and implement public health and research programs in marginalized populations. Over the last thirty years, Dr. Donald Warne, MD, MPH (Oglala Lakota) has worked with numerous Indigenous communities to develop public health programs and research projects.

In this webinar, we will examine community engagement strategies and provide successful case examples. We will also discuss the concept of Indigenous Data Sovereignty. For Indigenous Peoples, advancing Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Governance includes:

  • Asserting Indigenous Peoples rights and interests in data
  • Advocating for data for the self-determined wellbeing of Indigenous Peoples
  • Reinforcing the rights to engage in decision-making in accordance with Indigenous values and collective interests.

Target group

The webinar is aimed at researchers, students and other interested parties who want to gain and deepen an understanding of Indigenous research methods and the decolonization of research. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during the event.

The webinar is free and requires no advance registration.
